The petrol engines in the A4 are equipped with FSI® or TFSI®, technologies that have been tried and tested in motorsport. In FSI® engines, fuel is injected into the combustion chamber in precisely metered quantities. This provides for efficient combustion and improved petrol utilisation. TFSI® combines FSI® with a turbocharger to deliver even more power. Petrol models are available as both four- and six-cylinder versions. The range at model launch extends from 118 kW (160 bhp) to 195 kW (265 bhp).
A special valve timing system, the Audi valvelift system, reduces internal friction in the 3.2 FSI engine, thus reducing fuel consumption – but not power! As a result, the most powerful model, the A4 3.2 FSI, with its torque rating of 330 Nm, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds.
Fuel consumption and emission data:
Audi A4 1.8 TFSI, 118 kW (160 bhp); combined fuel consumption 7.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 169 g/km
Audi A4 3.2 FSI quattro, 195 kW (265 bhp); combined fuel consumption 9.2 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions 219 g/km
