Audi Matrix LED headlights

Turn the night into day. With the optional Audi Matrix LED headlights you not only get better lighting but also more safety, a high degree of efficiency and an attractive design. The headlights divide the LED high beam into numerous small light-emitting diodes which work in combination with upstream lenses or reflectors.

The Audi Matrix LED headlights also offer unique optical characteristics: The low beam, whose eleven light diodes only require 20 watts of power, functions in a way similar to that of an eye.

The Audi Matrix LED technology ensures that individual LEDs can be switched on and off as needed. The control unit receives this information from a camera on the rear view mirror. In addition, each of the LEDs can be dimmed in 64 steps. In each case, the road surface is illuminated with a light similar to daylight without dazzling oncoming traffic. Traffic signs are specifically illuminated with a reduced luminosity to make sure that the driver is not dazzled by the high level of reflection.

The bending light of the Matrix LED headlights is produced by moving the light centre. When combined with the optional MMI Navigation plus, it gets activated even before the steering movement thanks to the predictive route data. The dynamic flashing light runs from the inside out in the direction in which the driver turns – a clear signal for other road users and another design feature.
