Towards a more sustainable future with electric mobility

Electric mobility is the key to more sustainable mobility worldwide. That's why we have set ourselves the goal of offering 30 electrified vehicles by 2025, 20 of which are purely electric cars that do not produce any CO₂ emissions locally in electric mode. For us, electric mobility is the central element of a more sustainable and climate-friendly transportation system.

Audi plant Brussels: The world's first high-volume production in the premium segment, that’s certified CO₂-neutral in balance*

Since March 2019 we have offered the Audi e-tron as a purely electric car in addition to our plug-in hybrids. The next step is to launch the Audi e-tron Sportback, an electric SUV coupé, on the market. In addition, however, we are also assuming responsibility for looking at the topic beyond the vehicle - and with our company-wide sustainability roadmap, we have set ourselves the goal of making the entire vehicle life cycle CO₂-neutral in balance*, from production to the use and recycling of the Audi models.

As part of the Audi environmental program Mission:Zero, all Audi locations are to be CO₂-neutral in balance* by 2025. This is already the case today at the Brussels plant. The use of renewable energies will avoid up to 40,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year. Audi has been using green electricity in Brussels since 2012. In 2013, the largest photovoltaic system in the region was added. In 2017 the plant was expanded. With an area of 89,000 square meters, it is the size of about 12.5 soccer fields and produces green electricity that could supply about 1,500 four-person households for a year. In addition, the plant’s heat requirements are made CO₂-neutral in balance* through the purchase of biogas certificates. All other emissions caused by fuels, heating oil or the combustion of solvents are offset in the balance sheet through so-called carbon credit projects.

The e-tron Charging Service: more than 120,000 public charging points

Whether it's the freedom to drive longer distances with an electric car or the flexibility to recharge when you’re taking a break anyway. Or whether it's simply an alternative in case you don't have your own charging facility at home. Whatever is important to you personally - in all three cases the public charging infrastructure is crucial.

For access to public charging stations, Audi offers the e-tron Charging Service and a Mode 3 charging cable as standard. With the e-tron Charging Service you can use more than 120,000 charging points in 21 European countries.

Long-distance electromobility with IONITY

Parallel to our first fully electric model, the Audi e-tron, we have not only launched both at-home and on-the-go charging solutions. Because our long-distance model needs a reliable charging network.

Audi is participating in IONITY to ensure that there are sufficient charging stations for your electric car on the motorways: The company operates a network of charging stations along European motorways. By the end of 2020, IONITY will enable rapid charging along motorways in 25 countries at around 400 stations for high-power charging (HPC). With the Audi e-tron Charging Service, customers can charge at reduced rates on the IONITY network and can also use the majority of all charging stations in Europe with just one card.

In order to achieve carbon-neutrality, three principles are pursued. First: effectively and sustainably reducing CO₂. Second: avoiding CO₂, including via energy supply conversion to renewable energy. Third: offsetting CO₂ emissions, especially those that are currently considered to be unavoidable, via climate protection projects.
