The assistance functions included in the assist package City use the data captured by the front and/or rear radar sensors and, if available, the optional surround view cameras. If the sensors detect any vehicles within their range, the respective assist systems specially designed for this purpose initiate multi-stage warnings. If the driver fails to respond, Audi pre sense 360°– the combination of Audi pre sense basic, Audi pre sense front, Audi pre sense rear and Audi pre sense side – can initiate safety measures, such as optimisation of the seat position and closing of the windows, from boosting of the brake force or initiation of maximum deceleration all the way to optional seat belt tensioning.
Intersection assist monitors the area in front of and to the side of the vehicle on intersections and exit roads using the radar sensors built into the front of the vehicle. If available, the information from the cameras for the optional 360° display is also used. Within system limits, the system detects moving objects such as cars that are approaching. The system operates at speeds up to 30 km/h, brake pulses are performed up to 10 km/h. In situations deemed critical, the system issues multi-stage warning messages.
Side assist helps monitor the traffic behind the vehicle. Two additional radar sensors installed on the rear record vehicles approaching from behind at the side or vehicles alongside. The distance and the speed difference of the vehicles can be measured and analysed.
If the doors are opened when the vehicle is stationary, the exit warning alerts you to potential collisions with other detected road users, e.g. vehicles approaching from behind.
Rear cross-traffic assist can warn passengers about a potential collision with approaching moving objects (e.g. vehicles in cross traffic) when reversing at speeds up to 10 km/h (e.g. when exiting a parking space). When exiting a parking space, the radar sensors monitor the area to the vehicle’s rear and sides.
Audi pre sense rear uses data from the radar sensors in the rear of the vehicle for monitoring. Within system limits, the probability of a rear-end collision with the vehicle behind is calculated. When the system detects a situation it deems critical for a collision, safety measures are initiated.
Audi pre sense side is active at vehicle speeds of up to 60 km/h and, within system limits, is able to detect imminent side collisions with crossing vehicles or vehicles approaching from the side. It uses data from the additional radar sensors installed at the front and rear of the vehicle as well as other sensors.
