Through permanent monitoring of the area in front of the vehicle and integrated analysis of the data captured, the system can recognise situations deemed critical and the probability of a front-end collision. This enables safety measures, such as optimisation of the seat position, to be initiated early.

Within the scope of technical possibilities, the service Audi pre sense front also includes checking and potentially improving the functionality of the system.¹ New situations that are challenging for the function can therefore be identified within the scope of what is technically possible, evaluated and possibly taken into account in any software updates.

Within system limits and depending on the situation and speed, Audi pre sense front can warn of imminent collisions and initiate suitable braking. To do this, the system uses the data from the front camera and calculates the probability of a front-end collision.

Vehicles can be detected at speeds of up to 250 km/h, pedestrians at speeds of up to approximately 85 km/h and cyclists at speeds from 5 km/h. If an imminent front-end collision is determined, the system warns the driver using a multi-stage concept. It provides a visual, acoustic and haptic warning and, if required, boosts the brake force or initiates maximum deceleration. This reduces the speed of the collision or, if possible, prevents it altogether.

Within the scope of technical possibilities, the service Audi pre sense front also includes checking and potentially improving the functionality of Audi pre sense front. In the rare cases in which Audi pre sense front is activated, this involves – where technically possible – vehicle data being collected within a few seconds and transmitted to AUDI AG. The advantage of this service, among other things, is that new situations that are challenging for the function (e.g. newly built tunnels) can be identified within the scope of what is technically possible and evaluated. These findings can possibly be taken into account in any software updates to improve the functionality of Audi pre sense front.

The safety measures offered by Audi pre sense front include:
  • tensioning of the front and, if available, the outer rear seat belts
  • optimisation of the seat position
  • activation of the hazard warning lights to alert other road users
  • closing of the windows and the panoramic glass sunroof (if ordered)
Your benefits
  • if required, the brake force can be boosted or maximum deceleration initiated
  • targeted initiation of safety measures such as optimisation of the seat position
  • early recognition of critical traffic situations
  • reduces the risk of a collision
