The brake system

Demonstrate the power present within the new Audi RS 6 Avant – with the standard-fit 19-inch RS brake system or the optional 20-inch ceramic brakes.

On the standard 19-inch brake system, the front wheels have 6-piston fixed callipers that powerfully grip the wave brake discs, with a cast friction ring with wave-pattern exterior contour that is connected by steel pins to an aluminium brake-disc chamber. This so-called floating mounting ensures that the friction ring remains largely tension-free, thus improving stability when subjected to high temperatures.

The axial perforations and cooling ducts for ventilation increase the performance of the brake discs. The use of composite materials and the characteristic geometry of the friction rings reduce the weight of the setup, thus improving the overall unsprung masses.

The 20-inch ceramic brake system is available as an option. It features brake discs made from a carbon-fibre reinforced ceramic material, hard silicon carbide with embedded high-strength carbon fibres. The result is enormous abrasion resistance, reduced weight, higher fading resistance and a long service life.
