Every movement originates from something. Something that set it off, an idea. The engines for your new Audi A8 L were also inspired by an initial thought: higher power with lower fuel consumption. These supposed conflicting philosophies are reconciled in revolutionary drive technology: TFSI. Get acquainted with both of them. And then opt for the drive system that you feel most moved by.
TFSI – sensational and supreme
Audi TFSI engines attain a particularly high compression rate. The result: outstanding efficiency combined with optimum performance. Substituting forced-induction technology for cubic capacity has the effect of reducing engine size and weight considerably – while performance is as impressively dynamic as ever. For power delivery that will win you over from the word go.
Audi cylinder on demand – intelligent and innovative
Even cylinder heads can be intelligent, as Audi cylinder on demand proves. Four of the TFSI engine‘s eight cylinders automatically shut down in the partial-load range. This helps to lower fuel consumption at the same time as reducing emissions. And without the switchover even being noticed or impairing the driving dynamics.
Have the road completely under control. Because the drive force is permanently distributed to all four wheels. Variably controlled by the centre differential. Always as the situation demands. Experience handling stability, dynamism and agility as never before and combat the effects of over and understeer with quattro with optional sport differential. For increased traction and superior propulsive power. Tame any road. And always keep your eyes set on where you‘re heading. In bends. On straights. Over any surface. For a fascinating experience that sticks. To the road – and in your mind.
The aluminium in the Audi Space Frame (ASF) is lightweight, offers greater freedom of design for cast parts and extruded sections than steel and the components made from it are noted for their high rigidity. The ASF design permits sporty handling with reduced consumption.
The start-stop system helps to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by switching off the engine when standing, e.g. at traffic lights. The start process is initiated as soon as the foot brake is released for a perfect getaway. Can be deactivated at any time via a button.
The recuperation system regains energy during the braking and coasting phases thanks to an intelligent voltage control system for the alternator. This energy is stored in the battery and supplied to the vehicle electric system during the next acceleration process, thus taking the strain off the alternator.
Fuel consumption, combined: 9.2–7.9 l/100km;
CO2 emissions, combined: 216–184 g/km;
